Career Interview Assignment

The purpose is to learn more about the requirements of this field, including the academic and
career path typically required. In this assignment, you will interview a professional in the career
field that you would like to pursue in the future (part 1). After your interview, you will reflect on
your experience (part 2). Be sure to follow the specific steps for that option to be eligible for
maximum credit.
Part 1: Conduct an Interview with a professional
Select and conduct an interview with one (1) professional in the career field you would like to
pursue. Be prepared to ask questions that will give you more insight into your future career.
Consider the following questions, but you may create your own if you prefer (a minimum of five
questions is necessary for this assignment):
 What is your current job title/position and how long have you been in this role?
 How did you “land” this position? Please describe your career path to this current job.
 What do you enjoy most about your job? What do you like least about your job?
 Do you work in a “team” or “independent” environment? How does this style impact
your work (meaning, working with others can be challenging, supportive, helpful,
frustrating and working independently can be lonely, empowering, difficult?)
 What advice do you have for students who are interested in pursuing this career?
Options for Conducting Career Interview
